Her professional demeanour.
It was attractive.
But everything about her was always attractive.
Nirvi Bhatt.
Our little argument just a moment ago, that girl grew some claws. I'm not complaining. It was refreshing, she became quite the opposite of how she was 7 years ago. Back then, she was naive, novice and cute. I chuckled, remembering her square big glasses, soft smile, youthful face, and eyes. When I first saw her, I thought she was a doll, too cute to be true, but now, she has grown into a woman, her glasses replaced by lenses, her smile more defined, her face more mature and sharp and her eyes: fiery.
FLASHBACK~
Walking through the campus, I settled into the seat near the flame tree, scrolling through my phone, I had nothing to do. If I go around, I'll probably encounter Reya, which I don't want to happen.
She's too clingy. I have made myself clear that I don't like her, but she doesn't get a hint. I sighed, my hand automatically fixing my hair in its place.
"Excuse me?" A soft voice interrupted me, making me look up. Big frames, silky hair open but her eyes was the most attractive thing, at this point I was so lost in her eyes I didn't realize I hadn't replied.
I cleared my throat and looked at my watch, it was a weird, nervous habit I had; many people thought it was rude, but I'm just nervous.
"Yes?" I finally replied, looking back at her.
She smiled softly, "Do you know where is the canteen? I have been wandering along the campus and I didn't find it yet." She looks new, is she a first year student?
I nodded and directed her the way, to which she smiled. "Thank you so much for the help, I'm Nirvi by the way, I'm B.A. in event planning student." She looked at me hopefully, she looked so cute. I turned my face away, a small smile plastered on my face. Oh Lord. I masked my face with a neutral expression and looked back at her.
"I'm Aahan Sinha, Post graduate first-year student in MBA", I simply replied, gauging her reactions, to which she just nodded. It was weird because most of the people coo over it. I shrugged off her indifference.
"I shall get going." I grabbed my backpack and sling it over my shoulders. I strode towards the parking, she was beautiful. I don't know why but she mesmerized me in the way no one can.
FLASHBACK ENDS~
I was in charge of looking after the arrangement appointed by Reya. Yeah, guessed it right. My brother is getting engaged to Reya. It was a shock to me too, but it was too late when I realised Reya was not into me, she was into my brother. Oh god, I was a narcissist, I thought she clung to me to get close to ME. But she somehow knew I had a brother, and she was after him all along.
But I started liking her as my sister-in-law better. She and Yuvaan make a beautiful pair and they're so in love that I feel like hitting my head on the wall and want to leave the room they are in. Like come on, can they spare a poor single guy-me?
I shook my head looked all over the beach and it's arrangement. Everything was perfect. Just like her. My heart fluttered.
Just as I was about to leave, a message popped up on my phone.
NEWS: A SUDDEN TIDAL BORE ALERT ALL OVER THE GOA REGION, ESPECIALLY CALANGUTE, BAGA, AND ANJUNA.
What the fuck?
This wasn't supposed to happen. The engagement ceremony is tomorrow, the party is tomorrow. If this happens, the guest who were supposed to come today night and tomorrow morning would not come.
And wow, all the arrangements that Nirvi along with her team has done today will be required to take off right now.
I glanced around the beach and saw Nirvi with her assistant Siya. I sprinted towards her and mistakenly heard their plan to go to Hammerz club.
My hands rolled into a tightened fist. Hammerzz nightclub was one of the craziest nightlife spots in Goa, and her going there, where people will gawk at her, made me see red. No, Aahan control. She won't go. Siya excused herself and went off to the side to attend to one call.
I shook my head and stood behind her but maintaining a respectful distance.
"Hammerzz club?" My voice brought her attention towards me. I saw her shrug, as if my voice affected her. Her hand on her hips, I tried not to notice the dip of her waist and flare of her hips. I shook my head internally. Aahan, focus.
I shrugged her comment of, eavesdropping is crime making me smirk. She has claws afterall, little kitten. I needed o focus on what was important right now.
"I wish you could go, but you won't." I could see her getting red and angry, god, why is she so cute.
I saw her clench her jaw. "Why would I listen to you?"
Before I could reply, Siya ran over; she knew. "We can't go. It's an emergency."
"She's right, and that's what I was saying." I unlocked my phone and showed her the latest news.
Realisation glimmered in her eyes. "Fucking hell." She muttered. She dialled her event manager, Kartik Gupta. Coordinator, Divya Jain. Did an abrupt meeting, and all the while, Siya managed the technical staff, ordering them to remove the decorations as soon as possible.
I rolled up my sleeves and started helping Siya.
We had to rush it.
We removed all the decorations which took 2 days to finish. I was quite dejected that Nirvi had to face this and more that we had to delay the engagement. We won't get any payments back, so we had lost too much money in this now. The caterer- non-refundable. The DJ-Non refundable. Nirvi? Oh god.
Oh god. After 3 hours all the decoration items was placed inside the hotel, which they had protested but after bribing with some money they let us keep it in their storage room. I wanted to talk to Nirvi but she seemed stressed already. She doing her work in the hotel lobby. So, I left her alone but made sure to order her favourite caramel cake.
I went towards the hotel dining where my brother, Reya, my parents and her parents were sitting, everyone on call with one person or the other, apologising and confirming the cancellation of the engagement. They got the news too.
I sat beside Yuvaan, gave him a small smile, but he just nodded, looks like he's not in a good mood. I don't expect him to be in a good mood either.
My mother kept her phone aside, her face scrunched with annoyance. "Why does this tide have to come tomorrow?"
I shook my head. "It's unfortunate."
After all the complaints about the tides from everyone, one and all retreated to bed.
I too opened my room, and that's when I saw the caramel cake in my hotel room with a note.
I picked up the note, and a wide smile plastered on my face. The note said:
"Keep your treat and your half-baked thoughts — I'm on a no-nonsense diet"
